No. 23 Gamecocks Fall in Series Finale to No. 7 Volunteers

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 23rd ranked ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ softball team (22-10, 0-6) wrapped up its series with No. 7 Tennessee (26-4, 6-0), as the Gamecocks fell 8-0 Monday night (March 25).

Carolina was limited to three hits on the night, coming from Kianna Jones, Aniyah Black, and Giulia Desiderio. Sage Mardjetko (5-4) suffered the loss, she struck out three in 3 2-3 innings while allowing three runs.

The Lady Vols scored three runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth.

·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’s best opportunity to score came in the second when Jones reached on an infield single. Black followed with a single off the pitcher’s glove and a sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third. The inning stalled there, as the next two batters were retired.

Next up for the Gamecocks they will host a doubleheader against Charleston Southern on Wednesday (March 27) with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
