No. 4 Gamecocks Round Out Road Trip to Texas
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, TX – The No. 4 ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Equestrian team (6-5, 1-4) put up a tough fight against the Texas A&M Aggies (7-3, 2-3), ultimately falling 11-7 on the road.
The Gamecocks got things started on the Flat, with Sophie Mitchell securing her point 78-74 on Sparky over Maggie Nealon. Mary Hunter Millet kept things going, earning a point for ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ after defeating Rylee Shufelt 77-74 on Zena. Natalie Jayne then tied with Brooke Brombach on Diablo, each putting up a 66. Devon H. Thomas took the final point available for the Aggies, making the final score for Flat tied at 2-2.
The Aggies took control of Reining, winning the battle 4-1 overall. Mattie McNeill kept Texas A&M from the sweep, winning her point 70-0 on Tank. Texas A&M led 6-3 at the half.
The second half opened up with a win for the Gamecocks coming from sophomore Bella Primavera, putting up a season-high 84 to defeat Ali Treuting’s 75 on Max. Natalie Jayne then got the job done on North, taking down Brooke Brombach 81-76. Texas A&M took the remaining three points. Despite her loss, freshman Grace Rabb tied her career-high of 85 on Artie.
Kiersten Beckner got the points rolling for ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ in Horsemanship, coming out on top in a 10.5-point spread, 72.5-62 on Cowboy. The Aggies secured two points of their own, followed by a tie between ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’s Jodyn Humbert and TAMU’s Hanna Olaussen, each scoring a 72.5 on Sally. Carly Jenkins finished out strong for the Gamecocks with a 73.5-72.5 win on Sissy over Cori Cansdale.
