Gamecocks Wrap Up Dual Meet at Home

BLYTHEWOOD, SC – The No. 7 ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Equestrian team (4-3, 0-3) concluded hosting a dual meet at One Wood Farm on Friday, falling in a tight battle to Texas A&M 10-8, but finishing the day with a 6-2 win over the College of Charleston.

The Gamecocks got the points started for the day on the Flat, with newcomer Sarah Rabb defeating Nicole McMillion on Dento in an eight-point spread, 80-72. The Aggies answered back with two points of their own, while junior Sophie Mitchell tied things up with Maggie Nealon on Barnaby, 74-74. Texas A&M took the event 3-1.

Meanwhile during Horsemanship, sophomore Alyssa Jipping began the event with a new career high of 76.5 on Max, but fell to Ellie Gerbrandt’s 77.5. Ruby Voortmeyer answered back with a point for the Gamecocks, taking down Hanna Oluassen 74-67 on Chubby. Rookie Jenna Berghorst also set a new career high, taking her point with a 76 on Paddy to defeat Cori Cansdale’s 74.5. The Aggies then took the remaining two points, coming out on top 3-2.

In Fences, ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ saw victories from Natalie Jayne (83-81 on Dexter), and Alexa Aureliano (82-80 on Schnitzel). For her ride on Schnitzel, Aureliano picked up her first MOP of the season. Reining then rounded out the day with an impressive 3-2 win over the Aggies, with Chloe Stephenson, Emilia Reutimann, and Emma Lane each earning points for the team. For her ride 72.5-70 win on Chexie, Lane grabbed her first MOP of the season as well. Junior Haley Turner helped keep things close for the Gamecocks, tying 70-70 on Stoner against Emmy Lu Marsh.

The Gamecocks won the overall Western battle against the Aggies 5-4, the first time doing so since winning a 5-5 tiebreaker in raw scores back in February of 2020. It was the first outright win since a 6-4 victory in 2018.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ had a successful meet against the Cougars, coming out on top 6-2. The Gamecocks saw points on the Flat from Sophie Mitchell (77-71 on Tanner), Ellie Beard (78-70 on Dento) and Natalie Jayne (78-67 on Barnaby). For her ride, Jayne earned her third MOP of the season in the event, leading her team for the award. In Fences, ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ rounded out the day with wins from Sydney DeGrazia (80-78 on Joe), Jordan Allen (82-78 on Quentin) and Jayne (81-70 on Steve). With the highest score on the day, Allen received her fourth MOP in Fences this season, the most on the team in any event.

UP NEXT 

The Gamecocks will have a week off before hosting Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 17 at home at One Wood Farm. ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ will also be recognizing the jersey retirement of Katherine Schmidt Butler at the meet. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
